I started to post about the veg garden last year but for some reason, never finished. I think it’s time for it’s 15 minutes of fame, don’t you?
So far so good. I planted everything from seed and I was surprised at just how much came up.
Up front we have scallions and next to that are the carrots, then broccoli, then loose lettuce then the spinach. Most everything still has a lot of growing to do but we’ve been able to start eating the lettuce and spinach.
It’s more than Bear Cub and I can eat so next year I’ll be sure to stagger the planting.
Next to the spinach are three rows of tomatoes. Roma and Cherry. These look a little sparse in some areas but that’s probably a good thing because I’m sure if it’s anything like last year, there will be too much for us to eat.
Maybe that is why none or our neighbors grow veg gardens…they know I’m an overachiever and they’ll get the excess…
And finally, the cantaloupe.
I have to admit. These three aren’t from seed. I bought them from Lowes last week. None of the ones I planted from seed grew…or so I thought.
Just before I planted the new three cantaloupes, I discovered this little guy!
I wasn’t totally sure what a spouting baby cantaloupe-let looked like so I let the entire area get a bit weedy for fear I would pull a new sprout.
Just before planting the three new plants I weeded and found it. This little guy has a long way to go but that’s OK with me. Hopefully we’ll just have cantaloupe for the fall then.

We had a bit of a veg garden at Firefly Farm. I sure do miss those raised beds. Your garden looks so neat and organized!
I bet once you get into your own house again you’ll have great gardens again!
It looks great – you certainly have green fingers. And not a weed in sight! My carrots have really struggled this year.
Trust me, there are plenty of weeds! I can barely keep up with that stupid ivy whatever that keeps taking over :(
