When back in early September Papa Bear was stung by a stingray?
Well, as of about 30 minutes ago, PB walked out of a Wilmington hospital with this new accessory.
His new PICC.
Back in September, after seeing a Dr. in North Carolina about his finger, PB was put on oral antibiotics to help it heal. At some point the Dr. felt an infection was lingering in the bone so another dose of oral antibiotics was prescribed.
After a follow up visit yesterday, the Dr. felt that not enough medication was getting to the actual infection and ordered a PICC line be inserted.
After 5 hours at the hospital, PB described it as a 46 centimeter tube that had been inserted into his left arm, up into his shoulder and ending at an artery near his heart. Forty-three centimeters inside and 3 centimeters hanging out.
PB was told this PICC line would likely be left in for about 6 to 8 weeks and tomorrow morning, he gets his first lesson on how to give himself the medication which he’ll have to administer every week with weekly visits from a nurse to test his blood.
As if any of this weren’t bad enough…he was told today that while on this new medication, NO ALCOHOL.
Please pray for him…
