“This Sunday, I returned to the same park I had metal detected last week with the intent of digging some of the unfamiliar signals that I had passed over on the off chance that they were either gold or silver rings or jewelry. After a couple hours, I ended up with a “peace” pendant from a necklace and $2.42 in clad coins. Unfortunately most of the unfamiliar signals ended up being mostly items that could safely be referred to as ‘trash’. But hey, I have more battery money now….-PB”

You did very well with the coins.

Thanks! Surely you have city parks you can hit. I asked the City Hall and they directed me to Public Works. PW stated they did not care so long as I didn’t leave a hole. I cut plugs in the grass so no biggie there. I always dig a deep plug so as to get the roots up too. It saves the grass in the plug. Shallow plugs will kill the grass. PB
Well, this has been an issue with me for some time now. The County Council passed the buck and wouldn’t commit themselves as to permission, the Town Council would not reply to my letters or return my calls! I asked the park rangers where they stood and they told me detecting was not allowed but could not show me any rule or law which prevented this activity on the parks. I’ve checked the by-laws and metal detecting is not mentioned as a barred activity. I feel I could push the issue but I am a little undecided about what to do at the moment. I too always dig a deep plug – it definitely helps. Regards supernova
