I thought I’d end the week with some pictures of the flower garden and who doesn’t like flowers?
With our heat being as brutal as it’s been lately, I wanted to get some pictures of the flower garden up on the blog before they dry and turn to dust!
The hollyhocks in the back right corner where planted from seed last year. Last year about this time they grew about 3ft. tall but this year they’re just over 6ft tall.
We even have some growing on the far side of our little pond.
Last September I posted about about our Gaura plant being my favorite flower in our garden but this year I’d have to say it’s been our Beardtongue.
She was planted last summer and this year she peaked around late May-early June.
What makes this perennial so unique are her multiple colors. From her base she probably had about 12 -15 stalks with each of them covered in pink, blue, purple and red blooms.
The hummingbirds LOVE this thing!
The newest addition to the flower garden this year?
This Jackmanii Clematis behind the pond.
The water bottle in the picture is there because this picture was taken just before we left for 3 weeks vacation and it was my solution for keeping this guy happy and watered while we were gone.
Who knows. Maybe by this time next year Jack will be my new favorite perennial?

I swear you have green fingers.
You have done wonders with your garden and it looks beautiful. Over here we have just got a big soggy mess – a haven for slugs and snails.
Perhaps we will get a late summer – fingers crossed.
Everything looks great! You’ll be surprised how fast that clematis fills in but it’ll be tough to beat that Beardtongue – that is beautiful !
