“After two hours at the slaughterhouse I drove to another area. This area has two or three tent holes in the this location and sits on the edge of the camp, hence I call it the picket post. One of the tent holes has filled in naturally but the old rock pile that was the chimney is still quite visible. Another hole was filled in by the property owner. This is a fact that he feels bad about because until I turned up, he had no idea what the hole was. There is another possible tent hole that is totally filled in. I suspect it was filled in many years ago. There is also a shallow drainage ditch that runs through the area and shards of old glass are either on the surface of a couple of inches deep..
Only Bear Cub and I have hunted this area. BC found a few round balls on his first hunt and I found parts of a pewter spoon and shoulder scale in the dirt fill in the tent hole. I figured that it was time to go low and slow and see what I could find.
Again I was amazed at all that I found…
I found my obligatory spoon, plus a watch fob. I was very pleased with the lead carved button. It was at least than an inch under the surface. The two US Great Coat cuff buttons were nice too, although I was surprised that I didn’t find any regular buttons.
Again I was only here about two hours and then I decided to move to another location.
This hunt was a for about 6 hours, including travel time between areas. Not bad at all.”
