2013 Fort Bridger Mountain Man Rendezvous-By PB

11 Sep

“This event was held over a 5 day period spanning the Labor Day Weekend. On one of those days I decided to make the trip up there to finally go visit it. It is kind of out of my way but it was recommended I go and look at it. Besides I could also take in the museum while there…

I got there early enough to miss most of the crowds although the parking was already an issue by the time I got there.

Tent CitySome of the reenactors start camping here a full week prior to the event starting…

Jim BridgerThe statue of Jim Bridger greets you at the entrance. If you ever read the history of the fort, he really did get hosed by Brigham Young who never finished paying for it…

Guns1I really enjoyed the old firearms on display…

Wild BillAnd William Cody (Buffalo Bill) was there too. Of course he was sitting where everyone had to walk by so he got a lot more attention, especially from the ladies…

Camp Fire SceneThe reenactors were as thick as flies, with most of them really looking the part…

Mormon WallThis is the only remaining part of the “Morman Wall”. These were 1850′s improvements made to Jim Bridger’s original stockade…

StoresAnd of course there was the obligatory period stores set up to milk the visitors of their money. Other than the $4.00 access fee, I spent nothing…

WagonI always try and get photos of period items without any modern junk to spoil the shot. I think this was the best one I took.

After about 3 hours I was done. It was getting hot and all the city slickers had turned up to spoil the tranquility.

I am glad I made the trip, both to visit the museum and the Rendezvous, although I felt the museum was somewhat confusing in its presentation of the fort’s history.

Would I go again? Sure. I saw plenty of muzzle loaders and camp axes for sale at reasonable prices and I can never have too many of those. ~PB
